When you think of dating someone, it usually goes along the lines of, ‘pick up your date, go to the movies, grab some dinner, and maybe end the night with a kiss. Your main concerns on the date probably revolve around how kind, smart, generous, and funny the person is. Within the Christian faith, dating is a little different; in fact, they call it Christian courting.
Christian courting revolves around maintaining God’s presence within your budding relationship. A pastor, parent, or close friend may be the mentor. This mentor ensures that the couple stays faithful to each other and God.

The same story happens again and again. Young people, despite their better judgment and how they were raised, date someone they know they shouldn’t really be dating. Over time, simply because of the amount of time they spend together, they fall in love or into sin. They know in their heart it’s not someone they should marry but they marry them anyway. When young people head down this road, most times they don’t want us to counsel them and marry them. They don’t want us to know what’s really going on, they don’t want us to know what kind of choice they’re making, despite their better judgment and what God’s Word says. Many times sin is a part of this equation–they feel like they have to get married because they have entered into sexual sin with someone they know they shouldn’t even be dating in the first place.
People don’t just fall into sin. One compromise and wrong choice always leads to another.

A recent survey conducted by Christian Mingle, a popular Christian dating organization, revealed that a majority of Christians who attend church and believe in God in fact go through premarital sex. Only around 10 percent of the participants stated that they are waiting until marriage, while the rest said that they either have intercourse before marriage or even if they are not in a relationship. She noted that her church at the time did not put too much emphasis on things such as personal ministry or reading the Bible.
As a result she began having relationships and slept with many of the men she dated.

The moral erosion of our culture has encouraged people to place an over-emphasis on physical attributes, appearance, and sexual attraction.
This has occurred to the neglect of focusing on important qualities such as integrity, purity, and commitment; all of which are needed to sustain a marriage and family. Because dating and courtship did not exist then, neither Jesus, His disciples nor the authors of Scripture were led to specifically address these modern practices.
